To celebrate my birthday this month, I'm going to do a grid-style sampler with a square for each of my 39 years. I will do a square per day starting March 1 until April 8 and will post the squares here.
Want to play along? If you'd like to stitch a square per day for the next 39 days (or however many days you'd like) post a comment here with your blog address. Start by drawing a grid on your fabric (mine is 8 inches by 5 inches with 40 one inch squares (I'll leave the last one blank)). Then starting on Monday March 1, stitch and post the first square. Work sequentially across the grid.
If you're really busy, maybe just sew a button that day. Take your sampler with you and maybe you'll find an extra hour in a waiting room or something and then you can do an elaborate square. Or maybe you can make it your winding-down project to keep next to your bed. However you want to do it, complete each square and post it on that day.
(You may have to work on the first one the night before so you'll have time to work on it and still post it on March 1. I don't think that's cheating, do you?)
Be sure to comment here with your blog address if you want to stitchalong I will add you to the blogroll on the side. I think I'll also do a slideshow of squares we all do to inspire us. Won't that be fun?

Oh Amy, you are such an inspiration. Loved seeing your first sampler at Kim's artistic affair, where you taught. I haven't embrodiery for 30-35yrs, but between you & Teresa I have the bug again. Almost finished with the heart sampler on Teresa's last Ezine, have signed up on her current Ezine (I'm a little behind), but looking at your blog today, I'm completely blown away at how you take off & create so many beautiful samples, how I love your work!! Your hope sampler just took my breath away, I looked at it for about 15 mins, just couldn't take it all in. I don't have a blog, but I would love to follow along, I don't know if I could come up with 67 squares. A very happy Birthday to you, a little early! Love seeing that darling boy of yours growing with your family.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Nancy

I haven't embroidered since I was a teenager, but I really have been itching to get back into it. I'll give it a try:D I better get over to the store and get my supplies! Yippy! I'll post it on my new site: www.handmade-today.com
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of a sampler, but your little summer one on the other blog is so cute I have to play along. What do you do with it when your done? Frame it? Did you just pull your little designs out of thin air? Is there somewhere we can find little things like the cupcakes and layer cake and what not for inspiration? I'm going to have to be a copy cat for my first sampler I think.

Hi Amy. I'm delighted to have wandered onto your beautiful blog and fell in love with your 39 squares project. Can I still join in? If yes, I will be stitching a "little" more than 39...41 to be exact! I'm a life long cross-stitcher, but due to two little ones, I haven't created any needlework in a long time and have been itching to get back into it. This looks like a delightful way to get back on track!
ReplyDeletegreetings, amy!

ReplyDeleteWhat a clever project. I want to play along, but I've never done any embroidery. Any suggestions for a great book and/or DVD to get me started?? I'm a quilter now, and I would love, love, love to add some spice to my work with embroidery.

ReplyDeleteWe just found this idea today! Love it and all the work everyone has been doing. My sister Rachel (40 squares)and I, Sarah (36 squares) are going to make one each starting today. I think we will get our mum 'the guru embroiderer' doing it as well (too many squares to count- haha). Will post our progress on our blog www.roxycreations.blogspot.com and on flickr. Have joined the group. Thanks for the inspiration.
